The Unit for Research, Training and Development in Education in Indigenous Contexts (URFDEMA) supports activities related to the training of Indigenous teachers. Building on over 40 years of partnership with Indigenous communities, co-management principles are a cornerstone of the work done by URFDEMA. Its collaborative model allows for co-construction of knowledge and for the support of educational projects tailored to the needs of Indigenous communities.
URFDEMA supports various community-based projects in education. Its activities fall into three main areas of interest: the role and aims of community schools, school curriculum development, and support for learning and developing a mother tongue language. Together with school representatives and Indigenous stakeholders, URFDEMA undertakes activities in the co-construction of knowledge and the development of education.
