Val-d’Or, October 4, 2021 – The Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue (UQAT), the First Nations of Quebec and Labrador Health and Social Services Commission (FNQLHSSC), the Université du Québec en Outaouais in collaboration with DIALOG Network announce the publication of the 3rd edition of the Toolbox of Research Principles in an Aboriginal Context: Ethics, Respect, Fairness, Reciprocity, Collaboration and Culture.

The Toolbox, the first edition of which was launched in 2014 and the second in 2018, was designed to meet the evolving needs of the various stakeholders concerned with ethical issues in indigenous contexts. The editorial committee, composed of Suzy Basile (UQAT), Nancy Gros-Louis McHugh (FNQLHSSC) and Karine Gentelet (UQO), and all the contributors are pleased to enhance this reference tool intended for First Nations and Inuit, the academic world and the various practice milieus, by adding two new content sections to the Toolbox.

New articles resulting from the 4th Seminar on Research Ethics with Indigenous Peoples held in 2018 and from interviews conducted with researchers to highlight examples of practices and collaborations with First Peoples are therefore added to the existing content, available in digital form, in French and English (thanks to the financial contribution of the DIALOG Network), on the website of the FNQLHSSC, at centredoc.cssspnql.com.

Various themes are addressed in these new reference articles, including ethics in archaeology, information governance, evaluation of ethics in research with Indigenous peoples, research as a community leverage or social participation of the Elders.

About the Toolbox of Research Principals in an Aboriginal Context: Ethics, Respect, Fairness, Reciprocity, Collaboration and Culture.
The general objective of the Toolbox is to document concrete experiences and to propose tools likely to facilitate dialogue, collaboration and sharing between the different partners involved in a joint research process. In addition to being informative and educational, this Toolbox aims to promote the deployment of research and collaboration practices with First Peoples.
