Program for financial support in a pandemic situation

The current health crisis has had significant financial impacts on many students. The Ministère would like to support higher learning institutions in creating circumstances that promote academic success, and be more responsive to students' immediate needs with special financial assistance.

This support takes the form of reimbursement of expenses* related to:

  • Purchase of computer or multimedia equipment (laptop, printer, ink cartridges, camera, microphone, headset, specialized software, or others)
  • Purchase of office supplies
  • Assistance for transportation
  • Assistance for temporary housing
  • Internet service enhancement
  • Additional child care costs (related to the COVID-19 situation)
  • Any other additional student costs related to the COVID-19 situation

*subject to approval by the committee in charge of the program

Approved amounts

FULL-TIME student: A maximum of $1,500 per student may be approved.
PART-TIME student: A maximum of $800 per student may be approved.

To be reimbursed, the expense(s) must have been incurred after the declaration of health measures, on March 15, 2020.

How the program works

The student must:

  1. Complete the APPLICATION FORM to demonstrate need, and explain how the expense is related to the COVID-19 pandemic situation.
  2. Provide SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION for the expense (to be included with the form).

Types of supporting documentation requested:

Internet connection (mobile internet key)
Upon submission of internet service provider receipt/invoice*
Rate increase
Upon submission of "before" and "after" receipts/invoices*
Laptop
Upon submission of receipt/invoice*; maximum funding provided: $800
Child care costs
Upon submission of a signed agreement with the babysitter, for class time only
Temporary housing
Upon submission of a receipt/invoice or a signed agreement with the owner providing them with housing

*Submitted receipts/invoices or supporting documentation must be in the student's name. Any exception must be explained in the Comments section of the form.

The learning institution must ensure that amounts are approved for the most vulnerable individuals, given the current situation. This is why certain more personal information, related to the student's total income or their personal situation is requested on the application form.

Processing times

The application will be processed within 3-5 working days (determine if the refund is accepted).
After processing, reimbursement will be sent to you in 15 working days.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the high number of requests currently received, the processing times may be a little longer. Thank you for your patience and understanding, we will respond to your inquiries as soon as possible

Conditions

  • The program may be terminated at any time, depending on funds currently available.
  • UQAT reserves the right to terminate, or to modify the program at any time, without prior notice.
  • UQAT may check your MEES Financial Assistance File, your file with UQAT's Service des ressources financières [Finance Services] or with UQAT's bureau international [international student office]. Additional documents may be requested from you.
  • UQAT reserves the right to revoke any application because of deliberate omissions or incorrect information. Exchange students, and students who received certain scholarships are not eligible for this measure.
